“Off-road” can mean anything from a dusty parking lot loop to serious coastal rock, desert tracks and cliff views. Before you book, ask the operator to describe the route in plain language:

• Is it mostly dirt roads, or real rocky coastal terrain?

• Do you regularly take kids and grandparents on this tour?
• Is there a minimum age or any health conditions that should avoid it?

A responsible company is willing to say “this tour is not ideal for you” instead of pushing everyone into the same ride.

“Safety first” only means something if you can see it. Before you reserve, ask the operator to walk you through what happens in the 10 minutes before a tour leaves.

Look for answers that include:

• a clear briefing on controls, signals and following distance
• visible checks of tires, seatbelts, helmets and lights
• rules about speed, overtaking and staying behind the guide

• What happens if the company cancels (full refund, credit, alternative route)?

Every operator will say their tour is “the best”. What matters is whether they can explain, in concrete terms, what you get for the difference in price.

Listen for specifics such as:

• smaller group sizes, more stops, more time outside the buggy
• better-maintained vehicles, newer fleets or stronger engines
• experienced local guides who know stories, not just directions

The right question isn’t “Why are you more expensive?” It’s “What do I get for that difference that will actually change my day?”
